Water drops 3,700 feet from tunnels in the Tehachapi Mountains into Pyramid Lake and then rushes into spinning turbines at the Castaic power plant before it reaches a rest point at Castaic Lake northeast of Los Angeles.

This is the lower reservior, the dam is in the distance.
